Andy Kulp
Andy is a self-taught collage artist in Winchester, Virginia. He frankensteins discarded paper images into pieces that highlight mystery, narrative, and play. Andy's trying to create something fun, not necessarily important. He invites viewers to build their own stories around his nonsense.
His work has been shown in several regional venues since 2017 including the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley and Lost River Trading Post.
I first saw Andy’s work several years ago at the MSV and was so captivated! His combination of contrasting images and themes make his work endlessly fun and imagination provoking. Andy’s attitude about art making is just as wonderful as his work. The way he talks about his process reminds me of how the children I’ve taught (or my dad and grandpa) would tinker. Tinkering is so rooted in play - in openness. This is a quality in artists that is so overlooked and also so humbling.
We had a blast with Andy and at his opening receptions and workshop!
