Foundations: Teen Art Studio (ages 13-18)

This high school studio art class is designed for homeschooled students ages 14-18 who want to build a strong foundation in visual art. Through a mix of hands-on projects, sketchbook exercises, and collaborative critiques, we'll explore the Elements of Art and Principles of Design.

Students will develop their technical skills while learning to articulate their artistic choices. The course emphasizes establishing strong art habits and practices, including maintaining a regular sketchbook for idea development, participating in group critiques to hone observational and communication skills, and committing to the consistent practice needed to develop a unique artistic voice. By the end of the course, students will have a more disciplined approach to their craft and a portfolio of work that showcases their growth and individual expression.

What to expect in each session:

  • Brainstorming, sketching, refining, and critique

  • Viewing art and critically discussing art in Typewriter Gallery and other artists

  • Some guided practice projects

  • Themes to create around
